The Challenge
Managing a large and diverse asset portfolio is a challenge faced by many defence organisations, particularly where assets are dispersed across multiple locations, maintained by different teams and supported by numerous information systems.
Our client was responsible for approximately 900 facilities, more than 400,000 assets and a workforce of around 10,000 personnel. While significant volumes of asset information existed throughout the organisation, there was limited visibility of asset performance, lifecycle risk and future investment priorities at an enterprise level.
Investment decisions were often made using fragmented data sets and localised knowledge, making it difficult to assess risk consistently or justify expenditure with confidence. Increasing pressure to optimise budgets while maintaining operational capability meant a more structured approach was required.
Our Approach
Indicatura worked with operational, engineering and leadership teams to develop and implement a comprehensive Asset Management Framework.
The objective was not simply to improve the management of physical assets, but to create a consistent approach to ensuring value from assets throughout their lifecycle and enable better investment decisions across the organisation.
We assessed existing processes, governance arrangements and information sources before establishing a framework covering:
Asset information management
Risk assessment
Asset criticality analysis
Investment prioritisation
Performance measurement
Strategic planning
By aligning asset-level data with organisational objectives, we enabled stakeholders to understand how asset performance affected operational delivery, risk and expenditure.
The Outcome
The framework provided a clear and consistent view of asset performance, condition and risk across the estate.
Decision-makers gained improved visibility into investment requirements and a stronger understanding of how asset-related risks could impact organisational objectives.
The organisation was able to prioritise investment more effectively, improve governance and make faster, evidence-based decisions that were linked to objective value, rather than opinion.
